Welcome to Alder & Sage
Located in the Bluff Heights neighborhood of Long Beach, Alder & Sage serves Breakfast, Lunch, Happy Hour and Dinner, featuring a menu with simple yet unique dishes that reflect the freshest of farm-to-fork dining created by Chef James Wilschke.
Local coffee roasters such as Rose Park Roasters will be brewed all day by some of the most talented batistas in town. Craft beers, cocktails and boutique wines round out the menu. Vegetarian and vegan options are available.



Alder & Sage has a warm welcoming feel, with many of the building’s architectural elements repurposed from its prior life as a preschool: the building’s original ceiling beams have been repurposed as fencing outside and the sandbox is now a communal gathering spot called The Pool.
Giving life to the outdoor patio space is the herb garden and planted milkweed that is known for attracting monarch butterflies. Fire Pits keep our guests toasty on cool evenings. Dogs are welcome and have their own menu of house-made canine favorites.

Chef James Wilschke comes to Alder & Sage originally from Chicago, but now a Long Beach resident for over 20 years. He has been cooking professionally in the Los Angeles area for over 15 years and has worked for some highly regarded chefs such as Dean James Max and Neal Fraisier. He likes to keep a balance of rotating global flavors, while not forgetting the nostalgia-inducing comfort of classic bistro fare.
